In the spirit of the world-famous Vienna New Year’s Concert, the Grotte des Demoiselles now has its own Grand Christmas Concert: a magical and heartwarming musical event, capturing the festive spirit of the holiday season. Following the success of the 2021, 2022, and 2023 editions, a new edition is being held in the heart of the underground Cathedral, bringing the magic of the holidays to life through the most beautiful Christmas songs from around the world.

A unique musical experience featuring Vivaldi’s Gloria

Every year, the Grotte des Demoiselles transforms into a special venue to celebrate the holiday season with an extraordinary musical event. On Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 6:00 PM, the majestic underground Cathedral once again hosted its Grand Christmas Concert, a now-unmissable event for many visitors.

This edition highlighted Vivaldi’s Gloria, a luminous and energetic work, perfect for capturing the joyful spirit of Christmas. Performed by the Montpellier Vocal and Instrumental Ensemble—nearly 40 choristers—under the direction of Franck Fontcouberte, the Gloria resonated within one of the region’s most impressive natural settings. The pure acoustics of the cave gave each note a special depth, creating an atmosphere that was both intimate and grandiose.

Alongside the Gloria, the program included many traditional Christmas songs from across Europe: France, Germany, England, Hungary… Warm melodies, sometimes familiar, sometimes rarer, evoked the friendly and luminous spirit of the season.

The presence of soloists Cécile Bidi (soprano), Nathalie Cases (mezzo-soprano), and Karine Leonelli (piano) further enriched this already exceptional concert.

Between the raw beauty of the cave, its impressive volumes, and the power of the voices that filled the space, this Christmas Concert offered a truly special experience. A timeless interlude, blending emotion, wonder, and shared joy, perfect to enjoy with family or friends.
